Kecak Dance Spirit Orbs

Kecak Dance

So I finally got to see the famous Kecak Dance. I had been wanting to see it ever since I saw it in the movie "Baraka." It was really great. The performance that I saw had only a small audience and was held in an outdoor, ampitheater style venue. The cast was amazing though, especially Hanuman, who was very interactive with the audience. The play covers some of the key highlights from the Ramayana. Poor Sita has been duped and must be rescued. There was a ton of energy and I felt almost giddy the whole time. After I saw the pictures, I knew why. There are soooo many amazing orbs in my pictures.

Spectacular Sunset at Padang Padang

Padang Padang 2009

To my good fortune, which I have had an abundance of lately, the Padang Padang surf contest ran two days before my departure. I was super stoked that I made it down there to see Jamie O'Brien win. It was an amazing barrelling left with great conditions. It was nice to be back on the surf scene and being here has made me really miss Hawaii. It may be time to take a trip back out there soon. For a long time, I didn't feel like I wanted to go back. Too sad? But now it seems like I could use that long paddle out to Publics! Aloha.

Balinese Jesus & Mermaids?

I love syncretism in religious art.

Balinese Art

It's nice to be in a place the honors art so much. The Balinese people have an amazing art tradition here. They are known for their music, paintings, sculptures, architecture, and fabrics. Additionally, my employer has a container to ship things back...that equals some good shopping, my friend. My two main purchases are a medium sized coco jar and a gorgeous shell necklace and stand. Just as a warning most everyone's gifts are being shipping in the container, so your patience is required ;-)
